LADIES STEP DANCE CLASS

The latest class was held earlier than expected on 5th March in a new venue in Girton village. The dance we learned this time was “Come Ashore Jolly Tar” which was not too taxing for some of us as we had met it before. However, we did learn one completely new step and a variation on a familiar one. The class, which was well attended, was taught, as before, by Alison Gundy. The next class will be on May 7th and will be more of a half day school. There will be a visiting teacher and musician and two dances will be taught.

Details will be available from me nearer the time.

PIPE BAND BURN`S SUPPER

The Pipe Band members cannot assemble for a Burn`s Supper on the correct day as most are involved with playing for other people. So on March 4th a touch over 30 members and spouses met at Wilden Village Hall for a very informal supper.

I was invited to provide the background music with my kit and CDs.

It was to be a relaxed occasion with no formal speeches. The tables were set up in a square with the diners facing in. After soup came the traditional piping in of the haggis followed by The Address to a Haggis performed by Donald Reid and what a vigorous and exuberant rendering of this Burn`s poem it was, to be sure.

After the Haggis, neaps and tatties came another piper leading our chefs around the room and to Dorothy`s amazement they stopped at her place and laid before her a fruit salad. This was a complete and very pleasant surprise to Dorothy. The sweet for the rest of us was profiterole. Coffee (and tea for Dorothy) was served, then the tables were cleared to leave space for dancing. Dancing was simple – Gay Gordons, Scotland, Strip the Willow, Eightsome Reel and others.

Interestingly only two pipers took their pipes.

STORK ACTIVITY

It`s not often we get to announce the arrival of a new baby in this newsletter but this time we really can! Many of you will remember Patricia and Colin MacFadyen who belonged to our branch just a few years ago then moved to Scotland and got married there. Well, they now have a daughter, Charlotte Rose, born on 6th March weighing in at 7lb 6oz. We are delighted to hear the news and offer our heartiest congratulations.

FOR NON-DELIA FANS!

Delia`s Way Real Woman`s Way
Stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of a sugar cone to prevent ice-cream drips. Just suck the ice-cream out of the bottom, you`re probably lying on the couch with your feet up anyway
To keep potatoes from budding, place an apple in the bag with the potatoes. Buy Smash and keep it in the cupboard for up to a year.
Wrap celery in aluminium foil when putting in the fridge and it will keep for weeks. It could keep forever, Who eats it? the fridge and it will keep for weeks.
Brush some beaten egg white over piecrust before baking to give beautiful glossy finish. Sainsbury`s frozen pie directions do not include brushing on egg white so I don`t do that.
Cure for headaches: Take a lime, cut in half and rub on forehead. Take a lime, cut in half and drop it in 8 ounces of vodka. Drink the vodka. Who cares about the headache?
If you have a problem opening jars, try using Latex gloves. They give a non-stick grip that makes opening jars easy. Why do I have a man?
