DEMONSTRATION

Oddfellows demo - Crook

Our only recent demonstration to report on was rather unusual. It took place in Woburn Safari Park of all places. The occasion was a fund raising event run by the Oddfellows in support of Hearing Dogs for the Deaf. The venue was The Lodge, a surprisingly spacious entertainment room within the restaurant complex in the family fun area. Our contribution was two half hour spots during the afternoon which went without any hitches but was a bit of an endurance test in the hot sunny weather. On our way in and out we were treated to a few glimpses of the animals including a gang of endearing young giraffes and altogether it was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.

SUMMER HIGHLAND CLASS REPORT

We are still managing to keep the summer highland class going during June and July (despite the usual melting temperatures!) and have worked on some new and some old dances which will be used in future demonstrations. Although the class is not large there were always enough to make up a set and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our grateful thanks to George for his patient teaching.

A MEASURE OF SCOTCH

We have been asked to tell you about “A Measure of Scotch” which is a celebration of Scotland`s music and dance. It is produced by the “Heil` and Toe” club and will take place on 16th October in The Alban Centre, St. Albans. If you are interested ring me for more details – 01234 349803.

DANCING IN SPAIN

Dancers from Leicester Branch have organised Scottish Dancing holidays in Spain in recent years. These have combined dancing in the evenings to recorded music with opportunities for optional sightseeing and walking during the day. Helen and Keith Rose have been to both Calpe and Nerja with this group. We have heard that another trip is proposed for 25th February 2011 to 4th March, returning to Calpe on the Costa Blanca. Everyone is welcome, including singles and non-dancing partners. For more information, please see Helen or Keith.
